Dixie Classic Fair! September 30th through October 9th
The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds play host to a diversity of events and guests every fall and one of the most beloved is without a doubt the Dixie Classic Fair. Beginning on September 30th and running through October 9th this year is already shaping up to be yet another fun-filled fall fair.
Between the rodeos, demolition derbies, and tractor pulls at the Grandstand, over fifty different thrilling rides, and a ton of delicious fried delicacies attendees are sure to walk away from this year with smiling faces, full stomachs, and aching feet from excitedly rushing to all their fair favorites.
For the young and young at heart The Eudora Farms Children’s Barnyard Zoo is present on 2016’s roll call bringing with them “Kevin Bacon”, the potbellied pig and his friends “Rascal” the Fennec Fox and “Little Joe” the wallaby. Saddle up for a ride with “Bubba” the Diet Coke drinking camel or his two other camel assistants.
Interested in seeing local foodies go head to head in the kitchen? Village Tavern’s Pie v. Cake competition invites the Triad’s bakers, professional and amateur alike, to brandish their rolling pins to see which classic dessert comes out on top with a grand prize of $1,000 and a $200 donation to Winston-Salem’s Rescue Mission. That’s a whole lot of sweetness for everyone involved.
Maybe to help you bounce out of that food coma from all those pies and cakes you could stop by the Winston-Salem Journal’s Krankies Coffee Contest where participants are required to use the local namesake coffee in a dish of their wildest imagination.
No matter what you see, eat, or do at the Dixie Classic Fair just know that the fun at Winston-Salem Fairgrounds doesn’t end when the fried candy bar stands pack up and leaves town.
