DESCRIPTION:Race Day Schedule \n7:30 a.m.: Race Day Registration Opens/Packet Pick Up\n8:30 a.m.: Registration Closes\n8:30 a.m.: Fun Run Starts\n9:00 a.m.: 5K Starts \nSign Up: Turkey Strut 5K\nFrom Jones Racing Company \nWe are now entering our 18th year of the Turkey Strut 5K! There is both an in-person and a virtual option\, so you participate in whichever way works for you. Virtual participants will have Thanksgiving Day through the following Sunday to complete their 5K or 1 mile and submit their results. You can either pick up your shirt and medal at packet pick up on Wednesday or you can add-on shipping during registration and we’ll mail it to you. \nThis event benefits the We Care House of Winston-Salem. The mission of the We Care House is to meet the physical needs of the people in order to position them so their spiritual needs can be met without distraction. The We Care House is an outreach of St. Peter’s that provides food to the community. Participants are asked to bring at least 3 canned food items to donate to the We Care House food bank. \nThe event takes place at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds which has PLENTY of parking and room for everyone. \nThe course is a USATF Certified 5K course and a 1-mile fun run/walk. Finally\, you don’t have to sit around the house all day waiting for the turkey to finish baking. Place that turkey in the oven and come join the fun at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds! \nThe race will begin at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds off Deacon Blvd just across the street from BB&T Field/Stadium. With the incredible year to year growth of this event we have designed this course to accommodate the participants and families. The course runs near BB&T Field/Stadium\, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum\, and the Deacon Baseball field stadium. Given that the course is USATF Certified\, final run times will go toward state and national records. \nBring your family and out-of-town guests for a great start to the Thanksgiving morning. Strollers and dogs are welcome to join the fun! \nThe awards are very unique for this event. Turkeys will be given to the Top 3 Overall Male & Female and Top 3 Overall Masters Male & Female. \nAll participants in the 5K will receive Long Sleeve T-shirts\, one-mile fun run participants have the option to purchase a shirt during registration. Finisher Medals for every participant (both the 5K and one-mile fun run)!

The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. \nDo I have to register in order to Walk?\nYes\, we want to know you’re walking with us and need every participant to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. There is no registration fee for Walk. However\, we ask every participant to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. \nDo I need to register my children for Walk?\nYes\, children should register. Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child. \nDoes every participant get a T-shirt?\nEvery registered participant who achieves the fundraising minimum of $100 will receive an official Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt via USPS. To receive a shirt in time for Walk day\, participants must raise the T-shirt minimum at least four weeks prior to the event. \nHow do I get my offline donations to show up on my personal fundraising web page?\nDonations can be made offline by submitting a check or money order by mail or hand-delivering to the local Alzheimer’s Association office. Be sure to include your offline donation form\, which can be found in your Participant Center or on your fundraising web page\, to make sure you receive credit for the donation. Donations typically take one to two weeks to show up on your web page. Don’t want to wait? You can also deposit checks directly to your Walk page from the Walk to End Alzheimer’s mobile app for iPhone or Android. \n\n\nEvent Specifics\nAre pets\, strollers\, bicycles and skates allowed on Walk day?\nWe do allow strollers\, but for everyone’s safety\, we discourage skateboards\, bicycles\, inline skates and wheelie footwear. Depending on the Walk location rules\, well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be on a leash at all times. \nWhat happens if it rains?\nWalk is a rain or shine event. However\, in the case of severe weather\, we will cancel. If this is the case\, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event. \nWe need volunteers! Know anyone who might be interested in helping us on the day of the event?\nWe need volunteers to help with set-up\, clean-up\, registration\, water stops\, Promise Garden and so much more. All interested volunteers should visit our volunteer page for more information about event day roles and responsibilities. \nHow do I get a Promise Garden Flower?\nEach registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower. Please choose the color that best represents your connection to the disease. \n\nBlue represents someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia\nPurple is for those who have lost someone to the disease.\nYellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for a person living with Alzheimer’s.\nOrange is for those who support the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

This is a 5K race fundraising event with an extra .11 mile for a total distance of 3.21 miles to raise awareness and support for individual with Down syndrome.
