Forsyth Public Health taking COVID-19 vaccination appointments for 65 and older

The Forsyth County Department of Public Health is taking COVID-19 vaccination appointments for seniors 65 and older and healthcare workers. Public Health is also working to transition to its new, mass-vaccination site at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Education Building starting Jan. 24.

The appointment site is Bit.Ly/FCNCCovidVaccine, and appointments will be available for Jan. 24-26 starting at 5 p.m. today. There are 2,700 appointments available at the Fairgrounds at the Education Building (please enter off Deacon Blvd), based on the amount of vaccine Forsyth Public Health has been allotted. Earlier appointments at the Forsyth County Public Health Department that were previously booked may also become available due to cancelations. The mass-vaccination site will increase Public Health’s capacity for vaccination from approximately 550 a day, with the goal of ramping up to serve at least 1,000 people a day.

Currently, Public Health is not accepting phone calls for appointments but has plans to have both phone and online appointment options soon.

The website will send an email confirmation that will allow users to cancel the appointment. It’s important to either attend the appointment or cancel at least two hours ahead of time so staff can schedule someone else.

Only those who qualify should make an appointment. Screening questions will be reviewed by staff and those who do not meet the criteria will have their appointments canceled.

Vaccine supply is currently limited and the demand for it is very high. Public Health officials urge patience as the vaccine rollout continues in the coming weeks and months.

Forsyth County Public Health has vaccinated approximately 7,100 people as of Jan. 19th.

Food trucks will be on-site every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until May 31st. Order online from Wutyasay Food Truck Here: https://foodtruck.pub/order/menu.aspx?busid=5084&pg=0

Fairgrounds Farmers Market Closed Saturday, Jan. 9

The Fairgrounds Farmers Market closed ON Saturday, Jan. 9, while a contractor replaces the lights inside the market building. The existing fluorescent lights are being replaced with brighter LED lights that use half as much energy. The improvements are being carried out with the goal to provide a better experience for Farmers Market vendors & guests and help the market become more energy efficient.

The Fairgrounds Farmers Market is expected to reopen Saturday, Jan. 16. Market hours are from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The $17,630 project to replace the lights is the latest in a series of ongoing improvements to improve energy efficiency at the fairgrounds. A three-phase project to replace the lights in the Fairgrounds Annex commenced in 2018 and last year the high mast lights over the midway were converted to LEDs.
