Starting off on July 16th, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm there is the Cook Medical Beat the Heat 5k at the Innergrounds and Midway. Beat the Heat has been one of the most popular races in North Carolina for more than 30 years!. It has been selected multiple times by Endurance Magazine as the best 5K in Triad NC and was featured in Running Journal magazine as the #1 “Under the Radar” race in the South. Beat the Heat is a charity event with proceeds going to local non-profits that support health and fitness in the community.

Various concerts and entertainment events have been hosted in the Annex Theatre. August 26th: Little Texas w/ Crawford & Power

Visit Winston-Salem and Bandits JOAD to Host North Carolina State Championship Events for USA Archery

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Bandits JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) is set to host the 2022 USA Archery North Carolina State and JOAD Indoor Championships February 11-12 at the Winston Salem Fairgrounds Education Building. The state championship events, which expect to attract 100 plus archers, will headline North Carolina’s top talent, including archers with Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship aspirations. 

USA Archery is the National Governing Body for the Olympic and Paralympic sport of archery and has sanctioned Bandits JOAD to host this prestigious event for the 3rd year in a row. There will be a try Archery session for Fairgrounds Staff and media Friday, February 11th at 2pm.

At the age of 3, Shane Hansen joined his parent’s acrobatic roller skating act. Today, he has created a heart-stopping variety act with juggling, trampoline stunts, magic, fire, balancing maneuvers and more in Circus Shane’s Rock-N-Circus. Shane works hand-inhand with a nationwide addiction program and helps provide information to millions of people who need help.

It was 1926 in Trondheim, Norway, where Johnny Johnsen Welde had a fascination with bears. His love for the animals became a reality when he ran away, joined the circus and put together his first trained bear act. In 1948, he made his American debut with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus for the 1947-1948 seasons. Today, third generation Animal Trainer, Johnny D. Welde, continues the tradition of training bears and educating about the importance of habitat preservation and conservation for all bears. When the bears are not performing or appearing in movies, commercials and advertising, they live on bucolic Bearadise Ranch.

One minute, unique, brightly colored, life-size cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors cruise down the road; then they suddenly transform into robots during presentations by Robocars Entertainment. Operator driven, these vehicles walk and drive creating, endless interactive excitement for spectators.

San Diego-based artists, Bridget Rountree and Iain Gunn, are Animal Cracker Conspiracy, a contemporary collaborative hybrid puppet company invested in peering under the surface of things and pushing the boundaries of live kinetic performance. Mixing and mingling styles of puppetry, with masks, circus and visual arts, Animal Cracker Conspiracy will bring their unique live street performance/theater to the Fair. Their nationally and internationally acclaimed work has received grants from the Jim Henson Foundation, Heather Beth Henson Fund, San Diego Foundation, and the Puffin Foundation.

LIVE GRANDSTAND MUSICAL PERFORMANCES

Taking the Grandstand at 7:30PM on October 4 will be Color Me Badd with Tag Team for a night of contemporary R&B and hip hop presented by WQMG-FM. Color Me Badd was formed in 1985 in Oklahoma City, OK, by Bryan Abrams, tenor Mark Calderon, second tenor Sam Watters and baritone Kevin Thornton. Color Me Badd broke up in 1998 before reuniting in 2010, with various lineups since. Best known for their singles “I Wanna Sex You Up”, “I Adore Mi Amor” and “All 4 Love”, the group has sold over 12 million records worldwide, had two number 1 hit singles, nine Top 40 hits and a triple-platinum album. Iconic old school hip hop duo, Tag Team from Atlanta, GA, is best known for their 1993 single “Whoomp! (There It Is)”, which has been featured in a number of advertisements, films, and TV shows. The duo is made up of Cecil Glenn (DC the Brain Supreme) and Steve Gibson (Steve Rolln) have become pop culture icons and ambassadors across every continent bringing worldwide attention to booty shake music from the south. Other highlight songs include “U Go Girl,” “Here It Is, Bam,” and “Funkey Situation,” among others.

On October 5 at 7:30PM get ready for country music with Walker Hayes and Cooper Alan presented by 93.1 WPAW-FM The Wolf. American pop country singer Walker Hayes has charted four singles on Hot Country Songs and has released two albums. Hayes has recorded for both Capitol Records and Monument Records, with his breakthrough song being “You Broke Up with Me” from his 2017 album Boom, as well his biggest hit, “Fancy Like”, a number one from July 2021 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Cooper Alan is an American pop country singer from Winston-Salem, NC. A graduate of UNC Chapel, Hill he now resides in Nashville writing songs with incredible co-writers like Rivers Rutherford, Gary Burr, Seth Mosley, Leslie Satcher, Will Robinson, Kent Blazy, James Dean Hicks, Lee Thomas Miller, and of course, Victoria Shaw. His hit singles include “Climate Change,” “15 to 12,” “Colt 45 (Country Remix),”and more. With more than 4 million followers on TikTok, Alan’s latest single, “New Normal,” shot straight to the top the moment it was released, hitting #1 on the iTunes country chart and #6 on the all genres chart.

Don’t miss Andrew Ripp with Baylor Wilson at 7:30PM on October 6. Baylor Wilson is a 26-year old who has already lived a life most people only dream about – excelling at competitive cheerleading, starring in Season 29 of CBS’s Survivor, scoring a country music publishing deal – all before graduating from Belmont University. The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds will still host a concert with Jukebox rehab on August 13 2021.  Titled Jukebox Rehab with Andrew Millsap Jam Session at 7:30 pm in the Annex Theatre. Pre-sale tickets are available July 16, 2021 through July 23, 2021 for $10, July 24, 2021through August 12, 2021 advance sale tickets will be $18, tickets will be available at the door for $25, and all tickets are general admission.

Montgomery Gentry is scheduled to perform September 11, 2021 as part of the WBRF Classic Country Concert Series. Tickets are available online and in person at the Annex Box Office.

The Classic Country Concert Series presented by 98.1 Classic Country is back at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex Theatre this year. The Series kicks off with John Michael Montgomery and Whiskey Foxtrot on May 14th. This will be a historic event, being the first major national touring concert in the triad in over a year.

With the health and safety of our guests, participants, and community as our highest priority, the Fairgrounds staff have implemented multiple changes in line with state and local restrictions. Some of these changes include seating is spaced 6 feet between parties, less than 50% capacity, masks are required at all times for all guests and staff, all staff and vendors will undergo health/safety screenings, and additional sanitation stations will be available throughout the Annex Theatre.

John Michael Montgomery got his start singing with his brother Eddie, who would go on to become half of Montgomery Gentry. And from the moment his debut album Life’s a Dance dropped, the country singer was the toast of Nashville.  Massive hits like “I Love the Way You Love Me”, “Beer and Bones,” and the titular track “Life’s a Dance” propelled the album to triple platinum. “I Love the Way You Love Me” (the album’s second single) was Montgomery’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard country charts. John Michael Montgomery went on to win multiple, American Music Awards and Country Music Awards.

Whiskey Foxtrot is an aspiring local band with legendary country sounds.

Tickets purchased for the original June 26, 2020 performance can be exchanged for the May 14, 2021 performance.

The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds will once again host the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (ACCHL) Championship Tournament, March 19-21, 2021.  Only this year it will include Schools from both the D3 and D2 divisions.

Teams returning from last season’s tournament include defending champion NC State and Virginia Tech, meanwhile Elon will be making their D2 Tournament debut in Winston-Salem.  There will also be a women’s Championship game on Saturday as W-Virginia Tech takes on W-NC State at 3 pm.  New teams joining the tournament through the D3 division include:  East Carolina, University of Florida, University of Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, High Point, and Liberty.

The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds has worked with the ACCHL and City staff to create guidelines on the safest way to host the tournament. Spectators for the tournament will be limited to 250 for each game, and will be assigned socially distanced seats within the Annex. All spectators will be required to wear a mask while in the Annex and must complete a health and safety screening before entering.  We ask that fans leave following the competition of their assigned game.

The ACCHL is committed to providing a quality hockey environment, as part of a student’s overall educational experience. The 2020/2021 ACCHL schedule looked a lot different this season.  The ACCHL is committed to the highest levels of integrity and sportsmanship as well as an understanding of the principal that intercollegiate athletics enhances the sense of community and strengthening the identity of our elite academic universities.  More information can be found at www.acchockey.com.

The tournament will feature ten games within a 3-day period, and will consist of two women’s teams and eight total teams in the ACCHL D2 and D3 divisions.

The game schedule is as followed, doors will open 30 minutes before each session.

Friday, March 19 – Day 1 – 11:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 8:00 pm

Saturday, March 20 – Day 2 – 12:30 pm, 3:00 pm (Women’s Final), 6:00 pm, 9:00 pm

Sunday, March 21 – Day 3 – D2 Final 4:00 pm, D3 Final 7 pm

ACCHL, Carolina Thunderbirds Hockey and regularly occurring youth hockey tournaments are just a few of the bragging rights that the Annex Ice Rink has in its resume of competitive hockey.

Last weekend, the Fairgrounds will be adding to that list by hosting the 2021 Carolina Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) State Tournament. This is the first year that the event is being held at the fairgrounds, with sights on being a regular host of the event in coming years. The enthusiasm for hockey at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds is sure to make this weekend a memorable one.

The tournament welcomed Youth Teams in 14U, 16U and 18U age groups. Visiting teams include the Queen City Royals, Jr. Hurricanes, NC Golden Bears, Jr. Seahawks, Raptors, Carolina Stars, Pineville Falcons, and Rogue. Games begin at 7:30AM on Friday February 27th with the final game being Sunday, February

Despite the excitement of staff & guests, the tournament looked a little different due to the nature of the current pandemic including limiting 4 guests per youth player (immediate family), masks requirements, temperature checks, limited time in the building before/after games, and outside spectators having to view games digitally via Live Barn.

The tournamnet ended with the JR. Hrricanes winning the 14U division, the Rogue Warriors winning the 16U and 18 U divisions.
