Fairgrounds Host 2021 Carolina Amateur Hockey Association State Tournament
ACCHL, Carolina Thunderbirds Hockey and regularly occurring youth hockey tournaments are just a few of the bragging rights that the Annex Ice Rink has in its resume of competitive hockey.
Last weekend, the Fairgrounds will be adding to that list by hosting the 2021 Carolina Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) State Tournament. This is the first year that the event is being held at the fairgrounds, with sights on being a regular host of the event in coming years. The enthusiasm for hockey at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds is sure to make this weekend a memorable one.
The tournament welcomed Youth Teams in 14U, 16U and 18U age groups. Visiting teams include the Queen City Royals, Jr. Hurricanes, NC Golden Bears, Jr. Seahawks, Raptors, Carolina Stars, Pineville Falcons, and Rogue. Games begin at 7:30AM on Friday February 27th with the final game being Sunday, February
Despite the excitement of staff & guests, the tournament looked a little different due to the nature of the current pandemic including limiting 4 guests per youth player (immediate family), masks requirements, temperature checks, limited time in the building before/after games, and outside spectators having to view games digitally via Live Barn.
The tournamnet ended with the JR. Hrricanes winning the 14U division, the Rogue Warriors winning the 16U and 18 U divisions.
